"i'm sorry for when i have fallen short..."

Tony Blair announced his resignation today in front of 250 party activists in his constituency. 27th June will be the day he steps down. A little over 10 years in power of the United Kingdom.

Of everything that happened over the last 10 years he will, unfortunately, be remembered for being the British Prime Minister who kissed the arse of American Idol (pls note sarcasm) Dubliya. It's a real pity that everything else that he achieved over the last 10 years would be overshadowed by that one decision he made.

To me he is a great leader. One that actually stood by the choices he made. One that stood up tall to the strongest winds. One that could still win elections when everyone had written him off. One that saw many an opposition stand up to him and fail. More importantly, one that could apologise for not being perfect.

I've got nothing but respect for him.

Maybe in his retirement we can persuade him to conduct "winning elections for dummies" - crash course to election success.

In other news, blowjobs lead to throat cancer. Eat your 5-a-day vegies boys.

The Irony is how un-popular Tony became after associating with Bush, and how Bush is still holding onto his office. Maybe it say something about the Intelligence of the Great Nation.

PS - Tell me you saw that news clipping on a RSS feed, and that you weren't Googling for "Blow-Jobs". he he :)

well i'm surprised Bush is still holding office...i'm surprised that he even won his second term...i was living with a couple of americans at that time and even they were surprised...

haha...the clippings were on BBC.co.uk. i'm not convinced that i'd get bbc news if i googled for blow jobs.

It's so easy to tell a lie and even more so easy to say "I goofed" after the chaotic mess the lie has created.

Neither Bush nor Blair can run away from the simple fact that the whole world was warning them of the repercussions of going to war.

i don't agree with you lanka personalities. see, as humans, we find it very difficult to apologise for our mistakes. this is especially true of our leaders, as admitting a mistake could ruin the image they portray. that's why i admire a leader who can come forward and say "ok i'm sorry".

i agree with you that iraq was uncalled for. it was illegal by all accounts even by a simple application of the laws of war. but i was watching the prime ministerial candidate debate either last year or the year before on bbc. blair was continuously asked about iraq. he responded that he only had a choice between two options, which were yes and no. he picked one, which according to him, according to the prime minister of the UK, at the time seemed most plausible. we also can't forget the fact that at the time he had the backing of the majority in parliament too. it's only when things went wrong that parliamentarians started distancing themselves from blair and from what they initially gave their assent to. unlike those parliamentarians, blair stuck to his decision. again i admire him for that. it may not be the right decision. but i admire him for his qualities.

thanks for reading :)

confab: while i agree with you that it is an honorable act to be able to come out and say sorry, it seems to me , in these modern times, that many are simply using it as an excuse to try and look honorable after goofing up wilfully knowing exactly what was going to happen upfront.

Sorry seems to be the easiest word, these days?
